NBA Basketball Betting: Golden State Warriors at Cleveland Cavaliers

Can LeBron James do it all? Can the self proclaimed ‘best player in the world’ put his banged up and overmatched team on his back and carry them to a NBA Championship? So far, it doesn’t look like it even though James himself is playing like a madman. LeBron is averaging 36.6 points 12.2 rebounds and 8.8 assists per game during the NBA Finals–one of the best stat lines in history. The problem is that he’s got very little help. In Miami, he had Dwayne Wade and Chris Bosh. When he moved to Cleveland, the ‘big three’ became LeBron, Kevin Love and Kyrie Irving. Now Love and Irving are out for the year leaving LeBron with a dearth of A-list talent. Once you get past ‘King James’, the best player on the team is likely Iman Shumpert–he’s a good enough NBA player but that’s a huge drop off in class. Making matters all the worse, the Cavs don’t trust their reserves meaning that LeBron et. al. have to play big minutes. It’s an even bigger issue against a Golden State team that has no trouble going 9 or 10 deep into their roster.

All of this is why the Warriors are favored at Cleveland which marks only the third time all year that the Cavs were underdogs on their home court. They’re 0-2 straight up and against the spread in their previous two spots getting points. LeBron James may end up being the Finals MVP even if his team loses. And there’s a good chance that’ll happen tonight. Basketball is a game of matchups. But the Warriors are in a situation where they can win–and win with ease–without having to even worry about LeBron. Based on the results of Games Four and Five all they need to do is contain LeBron’s overmatched teammates. Even if James goes for 50 points and 25 rebounds as long as they can contain the rest of Cleveland’s depleted lineup they’ll be good.

LeBron may go down in history as the greatest player ever in the NBA and may put up some obscene numbers tonight. It’s just hard to see how his teammates can pull their weight given the huge holes in the lineup left by the injuries to Love and Irving.
