Week 10 NFL Picks: Lions at Bears

The collarbone injury to Aaron Rodgers has turned the NFC North into an up for grabs division. The winner of this Sunday’s Lions-Bears tilt could find themselves in sole possession of first place. This marks the second meeting between the rivals following Detroit’s 40-32 shootout victory in Week 4. Chicago is coming off a short week, but feeling good after downing the Rodgers-less Packers on Monday night. The Lions are well-rested and eager to create separation in their quest for a division title. Here’s a preview.

Lions at Bears (+2.5)

The last we saw Detroit, Matt Stafford and Calvin Johnson were abusing the Cowboys defense for a thrilling come from behind win. Reggie Bush totaled 173 yards and a touchdown in the first meeting, while Johnson posted quiet numbers (4-44-1). Since then, the Bears front seven has been decimated by injuries. They rank 29th against the run and 29th in points allowed. Needless to say, Stafford and Co. should be in store for a monster game. An improved defense is struggling to amass sacks (13 total), but an opportunistic scheme has produced ten interceptions and six fumble recoveries. Linebacker DeAndre Levy is playing at an All-Pro level. Detroit is 4-4 ATS and 2-2 on the road.

Jay Cutler’s playing status is still in doubt. If he can’t suit up, the offense will be in capable hands of Josh McCown, who has tossed for 476 yards and three touchdowns in relief of Cutler. Matt Forte is posting career stats in Marc Trestman’s system; he ripped the Packers on Monday night and totaled 100-plus yards with a score in the Week 4 matchup. The more touches Forte gets, the more room Brandon Marshall and Alshon Jeffery will have to roam in the secondary. The offense will have to score, because the normally stout Bears defense is vulnerable across the board. Chicago is 2-5-1 ATS and 0-3 at home.

Detroit is 4-12-1 in its last 17 road games. Chicago has won three straight at home in the series. Even if Cutler plays, Lions have too much firepower. Bet the visitors.
